HEY Choir!!! =D

Okays. Yes, as Christie said, come and get the name of your mortal from me. Before choir ends next Wednesday....and don't complain if you don't get one of your close friends, cause the whole point of the angel-mortal thing is to help you make friends with other people in choir who you may not know as well...and make sure you pamper your mortal, and send her LOADS of letters, k? If you find you're not receiving anything from your angel, come tell me, and I'll go and find your angel, k?

Also remember to practice all your scores...make full use of the rest of your holidays!!! Ms Tham and Mr Tay said that next year will be a realllllyyyy packed year, so if you want to have time to do anything other than choir stuff, you should learn your music ASAP. Remember, we have 18 pieces to go...plus all the other music we're gonna have to learn. Don't worry...we'll try and make choir as pleasant an experience as possible...

Remember to go and sell your fundraising stuff, k? If you have people still willing to buy more, you can go buy some off other choir members, or go see the teachers or something. Also publicise that we may have more cards printed shortly...yes, we're gonna have to sell those.

kk.
love you all!!
see you next wed!

HEY CHOIR!!

kk....Partae's over, people...hope you all enjoyed yourselves! =D Things were not as organised as I would have prefered them to be, but people were scolding me for trying to get things too organised, so....yeah...I hope that none of you were dying to go home or anything, cuz that's not the point of a party, is it??

Yeah, don't forget that the year's events are not over, k? We still have practice on the 30th Dec, so make sure you turn up for that. Go through all your scores and stuff like that, cause it won't be very nice for the conductors if we have to start from scratch all over again, right? Yeah, let's do them proud!! =D

kk. tatafornow!

HI CHOIR!
I'm here to post something utterly random but totally cool.
Like, I'm sure you've all heard Jason Derulo's "Whatcha Say" right!
SOOOOOOOOOO
Like some people say he ripped off Imogen Heap's "Hide And Seek" but whatever.
Anyway!
I found this awesome singing group/choir/whatever who sang it!
AND IT'S LIKE AMAZING.
SO WATCH IT!
Cool or WHAT!
Did you hear the dude singing the high note? And we can all learn something from this totally-not-frivolous-post/video. Note their dynamics! And blending! And they all watch the conductor etc.
And yes, they're all dudes.
Let's not be too blown away by that awesomeawesomeawesome performance and remember Ellissa's equally long post.
Love,
Marian

Awesome times...

HEY CHOIR!!!!

Hope everyone is looking forward to the X'mas party! =D YOU BETTER BE. Just to ask, can anyone bake? Cuz we need volunteers to bring food and stuff....We'll let you know how we're gonna get the food FOOD done, but we need people to volunteer to bring cake, cookies, cake, cookies and more cake. Yeah, I know it's bad for our voices, but WHO CARES? We all deserve a bit of fun for 1 night. (yeah...and let's all keep it to the night of the 11th of dec, k?)

Awesome things are being planned, so please keep an Eye on your Email (you see? There's gotta be a reason for this awesome coincidence, right?), cause we'll be updating you =D

SO, please drop me or Rachael an email if you can bring cake. or cookies. or anything else. OH! And if you're waiting for us to ask you personally if you can sponsor anything, please don't...cause I don't read minds....Just drop me an(other) email to tell me what you want to sponsor, so we don't have to keep a budget in mind for that.

Yupz. Are you'all practicing your scores? YOU BETTER BE. hehe...naw....just make sure you're prepared for choir next year, k? Don't keep practicing until you get bored of choir, or the comm will have to work extra hard to get you all alive again next year....

OH! And please remember to drink lots of water, k? I'm guilty...I just recovered from a sore throat....so, learn...It may be rainy season, but the rain doesn't just seep into your body by magic. yeah...

Oh, and I know how much we're all missing choir (right, Right, RIGHT???) So, here's a thought for you...

"I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite."

-Isaiah 57:15 (2)

Please remember to tell me if you can't make it for the party on the 11th, and OH! If you still havn't gone for 3 concerts this year, there are LOADS of concerts to go and watch during the holidays, so email me, and I'll tell you some good ones to go see, k? Or you can pick up the Esplanade diary (which you can get at the Esplanade, by the way...) and see what good concerts there are. Yes, you can go even if you've already done 3 concerts for the year. More is good.

ok.
love you, dears!

yo choir!!!

ok this is kind of a sum-up of what's been going on, for those who missed practices recently.

-we finished ting tan qin
-attempted yagi xDDD
-got new scores (mary's song, children etc.)
-learnt first few pages of "children" (the japanese song)

hmm hope that holidays have been so far enjoyable, so to speak.

oh ya I found this video on youtube. it's our performance from the Sounds Of Hope concert.
"You Raise Me Up" Mgchoir+String Ensemble
dunno who posted it. haha it doesnt have picture, but then again, you dont need pictures to hear a choir right?

here's the link if needed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3nD0LLuofc
there's also the other performances of the concert.

lotsa awesome randomness,
-christie-

HEY!

Firstly, can we make it COMPULSORY for everyone to sign off when you finish a blog post? Cause it can get kindda confusing...

anyways...HOW'S LIFE KEEPIN' YOU, CHOIR? =D good, i hope! okay. happy holidays. happy times...and now, we're gonna have even more happy moments!

The date for our post-carolling cum Christmas party is out. 11th December. It's gonna be loads of fun, so you really don't want to miss it. We've got a great line-up planned, so please make sure you're free on the 11th. We're not sure about the venue and time and all of that yet, but we'll let you know, so please keep an eye on your emails.

Make sure you don't slack during the hols, k? Go run a few kilometers (at least) a few (at least) times a week, or you're really dead when you get back to school next year, cause we're gonna be whipped cream. SWWWeet. XD

Go and practice your scores, k? SLs/ Octet leaders, if you want to hold practices, please go ahead and do so, cause we don't want to be completely lost in January next year. OH! And don't go and eat too many sweets and chocolates and junk food, cause it will just spoil your voice, and that's bad...

okays.
thanks!
bye!

Duuuuuuudies,
can we look for a nice blogskin with navigations?
Or can someone design one! That'll be awesome.
Then we can revive the blog and put photos up and do "Reflections" on like our performances!
Like Ms Tham wants us to.
So any suggestions for blogskins, PUT IT IN THE TAGBOARD.
Thanks!

Hey!
This is an email I sent to the MGS-SASS choir today...just incase you didn't receive it, here it is....I think I'm just too lazy to write another looooong story...=D ENJOY! And no excuses for not reading the whole thing...it's not THAT long....

____________________________________________________________________

HEY Choir!!!

AHH. Carolling is over. Sweet release. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves over the past few months, during all our practices, whether good or bad, happy or sad, and the carolling days itself. The past two days will definitely hold memories that we will cherish as a choir for a looong time. I know that ALL the sec3s from MG choir still love the carolling days we had in 2007. So, please do reflect on everything we've learnt and done the past few days and make sure you continue to apply them, or Mr Tay will KILL US.

Just a thank you to JP (SASS President), Rachael (carolling co-i/c), Ruth and Yann Ting (MG vice-Presidents) and the carolling comm from MG: Lee Khim, Marian, Maria and Siying. Thanks for all the help you've given to me during the process of planning for carolling and during the actual carolling itself. (the bracketed stuff are for all you people who are still living in your own nutshell...)

Another thank you to go out to all the GLs : ME!, Lee Khim, Marian, Maria and Siying, and their respective AGLs : Joel, Barnabas, Darien, Evan and Jeremy (who we should all congratulate for pulling through O'levels and carolling all at the same time =D...CONGRATS!!) Thanks you all for helping co-ordinate your groups and keep them under a tight rope when we had problems organising the choir...by the way, you should know that there were about 70 people carolling in total, so that's why it was always so noisy...rings a bell? Thanks also for taking charge of the music when we had to break into our small groups! It all turned out well in the end.

Yet another thank you for all the conductors: Evan, Lee Khim, Joel, Christie, Stephen and Rachel. Thanks for being so courageous and taking the stand, and trying your very best to immitate Mr Tay and Ms Tham....

To Lee Khim: You are becoming ever more confident gal!! And your conducting is getting more and more hillarious, by the way....in a good way...cause it makes us smile =D MG gals, we're so lucky to have her around, so BE THANKFUL.

To Evan: LOL. Your conducting will forever be remembered...a testimony to all. I think I've told you before, but please don't change the way you conduct, cause it's entertaining (hehe...) and makes people smile, which in turn makes their singing better, so everything is better in the long run. X)

To Joel : Hi dude. Thanks for being the booming bass in our group. The bassists couldn't have survived without you. (AHEMAHEMRYANCLINTANDSEAN!!) And you're too serious when you try to cue us in for Gaudete, but it works anyways...

To Christie: Two words: You're Natural. No, not the gummies...You are tiny, but you're awesome. Seriously... you should make Sop 2s work so hard that we become the awesomest section ever...wait... we are the awesomest section ever! =D GO SOPPY 2s!!!

To Stephen: You conduct Wassail amazingly. Is your name pronounced Stephen or Steven? As in Stephen Leek or ..... nevermind...why do people have such wierd names? (talk for myself eh? ellissaeasitasayampanathan.)

To Rachel: HEY! You did great conducting us during practices. Sorry you didn't get a chance to conduct during carolling, though...the biggest pitty...nevermind. SOON. :)

Yupz. If anyone has any photos, please send them to me, so that we can compile nice ones and send them out to everyone...OH! And please don't tell me to go look on facebook, cause I kindda deleted my account, and it wasn't an accident. I PROMISE!! I'm not that absent minded.............okay, maybe I am, but I'm very sure I didn't delete my account by accident.

JP, can you please forward this to your whole choir? Thanks!

THANKOOO EVERYBODY!!

Hallos.

I promise you, the video is a total mess. Seriously. And the hair, well that was Marian's work of art, so don't laugh about it, cause that is not me. Honestly, why is bullying me so easy??? Let me explain the video in detail.

Once in a while, some of us crazy choir girls go to Pizza Hut for lunch on days we have choir in the morning and the afternoon. AND, without fail, every single time we go there, the same guy serves us. And I think he's really pissed now, cause....well, imagine if this same group of people keep coming, and they always tell you "table for 16 please!"

So happened, on Friday, a comm. meeting was called for and so, we decided to go to Pizza Hut. Now, you've got to understand the tabasco and pepsi story to fully understand what's happening here. Yann Ting, Rachael and Siying, can you please post something about the tabasco and pepsi story? Anyways, for those people out there who are clueless, the Tabasco and Pepsi story is about the wonder of bullying me.

So, like any other normal Pizza Hut day, Tabasco, by some miraculous means, ended up in my pepsi. Obviously, since I hadn't even started eating as yet, I decided to change my drink. After I'd gotten it changed, Tabasco (naturally) got added again. Awesome. In short, everyone got into the swing of bullying me. AGAIN.

No matter the odds, I treated those of the comm. who were there at Pizza Hut to the chocolate cake with ice-cream add-on thingy. You know, the ones which come with cherries on the top. CHERRIES ON THE TOP. Oh!!! and I eventually ate everyone's cherries...cause no one else likes them...=(

Siying, being the mentally (maybe physically) sickening person she is, passes a comment that if you can tie a knot with the cherry's stem, you're a good kisser. BTW, this comment was passed at our previous visit to Pizza Hut too. (AHEMAHEMAHEM!!!!!). So, Siying and Yann Ting each stuck a cherry stem in their mouths and tried to tie a knot. For the record, Siying managed to tie the knot...which means what??.........H A!

Eventually, they managed to persuade me into trying (it's the whole bullying ellissa thing again) it as well. So, the video is basically showing me trying to tie the cherry stem with the knot. Now, post story.

Later on, we dropped by at cold storage (another popular hangout). And guess what. They decided to search for cherries to buy for me for my birthday. HELLO?!? My birthday is wayyy over. Then, they tried for Christmas. They are crazy. CRAZY.

Please guys, I don't want cherries for a present, or I'll have to look at Mrs Cherie Heng's name like it was alien.

Love,
Eli

Heys Choir~
How were EOYs? Let's hope they weren't too bad that you can't come for choir on Friday, normal time. Hehes. Okies. Anyways, before Friday's rehearsal, you have to try make time to learn the caroling scores, Hope Is The Anchor and You Raise Me Up (according to Ellissa's email). And, if you've lost any of the scores, ask Daphne to see if she has any extra copies. Okies. I'm done here :). Have fun!
Smiles,
Michelle

Hey Choir!!

AHHHHH!!! EOYs are coming, and I'm sure that all of you are really really really mugging now...yeah. Go mug. =D Don't forget we still have choir this week, but remember to keep studying ah! Do your best for these exams, and then we can continue working hard for the choir. Carolling is gonna be really fun, but not if we all have to catch up with all our work from this year, right? So, the moral of the story is to do your best now. Make sure you keep God in your prayers too ah! Do your best, and leave the rest to God!=D

thanks!

yeah. You say, goodbye pretty ladies, and I say that too.

Hallo. =D

I just read the posts from Liz and Yann Ting about the farewell, and I've just been inspired to write something...it's that irritating inner sense that just keeps bugging me to DO MY JOB. So. This is to the dear comm of 0809

LIZ. I know I've got HUGE feet to fill, but I seriously dunno about the big feet thing...my feet look pretty small to me...=D but anyways, thanks for everything you've done, and thanks for all the encouragement...yes, I do have faith...lots of it...now's the time to put the faith into action! So, choir, let's get all those vocal chords movin'!! =}BTW, did I do a good job summarising stuff at the farewell? hehehe...yeah...no substantial information came out in the end, right? soryy...You were great in the good times and the bad, and somehow, you knew how to handle EVERY single situation...man...you're awesome. =)

Gabby. You're a great person. You know, this might be quite ironic (read the next statement over and over a few times and you'll get it...) I look up to the way you can lead so well by being humble. I look up to your 'humbleness'. LOL. seriously...you're always full of hope and faith for the choir, and it's been FABULOUS having you as a role model. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Nicole. Ahh...once again, you've been amazing...I think it's really funny when you look so stressed when there are problems with scores...your face reads: "HELLO?!? can you please be, like, wayyyy more responsible?" =D so cute...Thanks for being so concerned about details...it was like as if you were a thin thread that strung the small bits in the choir together. THANKKOOO

Violette. You are so talented. Really. I guess you already know that, so lets get on with things...OMG. The farewell song thing was so hilarious. CAUSE IT WAS SO WELL COMPOSED!!! =D We just realised how difficult it is to compose something tailor-made, straight-from-your-heart, and with a different lyricist and composer. Yeah, that's why we had to sing you the ready-made stuff...WHICH TURNED OUT AWESOME. In short, you're beyond words, and though it's hard to let you go, it's part of life I know. LOL. Thanks. For everything.

Christine. Your speech was THE most inspiring thing I've ever heard. More inspiring than Tiff's Fried Food speech. I was dumbstruck when I saw so many people crying. And, we could tell that you spoke from your heart. I'm devastated you (and all the other sec 4s) have to leave choir...AND, you woke me up to start REALLY SAVOURING the time I have left in the choir, cause now I'm scared that I will have the same reaction to leaving choir as you...I wonder...anyway, thanks!!!

Rebekah You are the sweetest person I’ve ever met. Seriously. You may not talk so much, and you may not be a people person, but you somehow manage to catch my attention with your quiet ways...it’s amazing...The way you worked with the Alto2s was suttle, and yet, effective...you’ve given Wey-Lynn and Sarah good grounds to work on...And I can see that you adore choir...Thank you for all the moments we’ve spent together, and...just...Thank you. =)

Ally You may be scary, but not scary enough for me :) You still give me the creeps, though...hehe...I’m glad I got to know you (eventhough it may not have been enough...) , and I enjoyed the times we had together, talking about how dumb our brothers will look doing the crazy concert....blahblahblah...yeah....THANKSMUCH!

I think that’s about it. I figured, since I had to summarise everything up during the farewell, I should write a ‘longer summary’ here. It’s still a summary, though...Hey, Yann Ting & Maria, still keep the 1 hour slot for me to talk at next year’s farewell, ah!! LOLZ.

To the up-and-maybe-too-happening comm. of 0910, I HAVE TONS OF HOPE FOR US :)...so, lets go get movin’ k? Haha...just kidding...cause we’re already moving, right? Haha...kidding again!!...LOL. I can imagine Siying telling me after she reads this...”Ellissa, you’re the most retarded person on Earth, and I think you know that. Who can make such lame jokes?” Of course, in this situation, she would have to be reminded of Liz and Gabby...=D

So, Thank you to everyone who has impacted the choir, and I hope that the next year is truly A song (legacy) that never ends

Lots of Love,
ellissasayampanathan

Saturday, August 29, 2009

goodbye, pretty ladies.

HELLO CHOIR.

i know i didnt have a(nother) chance to give a lovely speech to you girls just now, but i really want to thank you all for one of the most amazing nights of my life. from every moment of your planning to every second of the night, i knew that so much had been poured into organising this for us. and we really want to tell you that we appreciate it so very much.

thank you for the wonderful scrapbooks and the hugs and the smiles and the songs and the pictures. it's been four years of memories jampacked into one emotional night (though i didnt really cry) and it will be for each and every one of you girls too, soon.

i've had a great time with the committee leading the mgchoir, and there's so much to learn from each other. the most sincere and heartfelt thanks to the mgchoir committee 0809 for being awesome (of course) and giving your best to the choir.

ellissa, you're extremely long-winded but that's what makes you who you are. you think you have big shoes to fill, but actually you have pretty big feet too (: have faith in yourself, have faith in your committee, have faith in the choir because that's what/who you're going to be leading.

ruth, i know the heart of yours isnt done with the choir yet, and i know you will continue doing everything you can for everyone you meet. support ellissa and support every girl in the choir, and remember to turn off the lights and aircon in the chapel and yell at the choir for not arranging the pews properly. i know you'll enjoy it (:

yannting, you remind me of myself, i've told you this before. you're going to lead the choir to even greater heights with ellissa and ruth and the rest of the committee, i know it. and remember, keep the passion, because it's rare (:

daphne + rachael, congratulations, you two have gotten the hardest job of all (in my opinion), but i know you two will handle it well. (: support each other and work together, and remember not to lose any money or scores (tsk tsk tsk).

rachel fits + lee khim, you two may think that it's impossible to take over violette+christine, and of course you girls wont be able to. you'll take on their roles and continue growing in it, so that the choir will bloom under your guidance.

christina, marian, christie, michelle, siying, maria, weylynn, sarah, just because i grouped you all together doesnt mean youre too insignificant to be listed individually. it's because i just want all of you to know that, by working together, you all are going to be the ones who impact the choir the most, by impacting each individual girl who enters and leaves. i have faith in you girls. (:

it's going to be a rollercoaster ride of emotions, but it's at the end of the ride, that you'll really wish you could go on it again.

i know,
because i do.

all my love, and all of God's blessings.
liz.

Friday, August 28, 2009

Hello my dear choir(:

So, I just got back from the farewell literally minutes ago. Like, my eyes are still all red and puffy and swollen. The whole thing was incredible really, even considering the frenzy we were in while we prepared. And even though I wish I could've stayed for the entire thing, it was still an incredible night. I think I cried more than I did when I was watching Marley&Me and Up and Bridge to Terabithia and Spiderman2 combined. Can't believe it.

But yeah, I just wanted to tell you guys how amazing tonight was. I don't even know how to describe how much I'm going to miss all you sec 4s. You're all wonderful and perfect in your own ways and the choir will never be the same without you, ever. The choir would be nothing without your caring hearts, strong vision and unrelenting determination and I believe that I speak on behalf of the whole choir when I say that we love you so much.

There's this quote that I really like:

"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief and unspeakable love."
- Washington Irving

I think it speaks for itself. So, seeing how many tears were shed tonight, anyone will be able to tell how much all of you seniors really mean to us. You've touched our lives, even if it's just in small ways.

As part of the new comm, I can only hope what small impact I have on the choir will be just as wonderful as the tremendous ones you have left on us. And I'll say it again, we love you so much:D

To the rest of the choir, I'm sure the sec4s mean a lot to all of you and they've truly done so so much for us. So, now it's up to us to continue the legacy they've left behind and bring the choir to even greater and greater heights. I know all of you want to make them proud and not let them down. It's the least we owe to them isn't it? (:

I'm not usually a person of many words so, I shall end of with another quote. From High School Musical 3, haha however cheesy it may be. But it just popped into my head and I think it's pretty appropriate so. "It was a night to last forever, and we'll never ever never ever never ever never ever forget"

Much much much loove,
yannting♥

Hi choir!

Common tests are coming up! :O Study hard horh. Okay, wait. That's not the point. Anyways, there is a concert by ACSI coming up so if you want to go, please tell Daphne by tomorrow... It's on the 14th of August-this coming Friday. It's at ACS (Independant) Centre for Performing Arts 1-CPA 1. It's from 7.30pm to 9.30pm and the tickets are $10 each. Next, SYF photo orders/money. Please order through your ASL by the 19th of August and give her the money. If you don't want the photo, you'll have to give her a valid reason. Oh! Remember that there's no choir this week and it resumes next week, so remember to bring your scores for CCMC next week! (CCMC is next Sunday, if I'm not wrong... So practice your scores and try to memorise them!) Of course, studies come first. So, study hard!!! Good luck everyone!

btw, are we gonna link other choirs? I can link them if you want...

smiles,
michelle

Hi CHOIR!
This is like officially becoming my personal playground!
let me think of notices:
Rehearse Author of Life Divine, Gloria, Irish Blessing
Ticket orders for that concert thing are being taken now so tell your SLs/ASLs

OKAY NOW WATCH THIS!

IT IS AWESOME OKAY! It shows the beauty of harmony! And how awesome this song is and how we should strive to sound like that although we're not guys/tenors and listen to how high they can sing!

And this is what we should have sounded like? See how even if they aren't singing in their like mother tongue, they still sound kind of like it! We must be like them, and earn lots of money from singing to fund our tour next year!

Here's a nice little pick-me-up! IT'S SUCH AN AWESOME SONG. & it's something like what the lady said about HOW FAR WE'VE COME.

Love, Marian

Esplanade Presents...
Limelight - Celebrating Life, with Song
by the Methodist Girls' School Choir
7th April 2009, Tuesday
7.30pm
Esplanade Concert Hall
Ticket Price: $20 (concession for Students, NSF and Senior Citizens: $15)
Tickets can be bought from Esplanade Box Office and SISTIC's authorised agents

Songs are found in every culture and woven into daily life. While there are those that are from our childhood or tell of stories long ago, there are some which are part of rituals, and others which sing of the dance in our heart and feet .

From the sacred poetry Hildegarde von Bingen and the kulning calls of Swedish folk-hymn to the island dances of Japan and the sassy skirt-twirling dances of Latin America, The Methodist Girls’ School Choir celebrates life in every aspect, through song in this special choral performance.

About the Methodist Girls' School Choir
The Methodist Girls’ School Choir has been sharing the joy of music and singing through performances and competitions since their formation. One of 30 school choirs on Singapore’s Ministry of Education’s Choral Excellence Programme, the choir received the Gold award for the 4th Ambassador of the Arts Awards (2004) and has consistently achieved Gold awards in the biennial Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging Choir Competition. Representing Singapore in international festival-competitions, the Choir has toured San Francisco (1999), Athens (2004), Bratislava (2007) and Prague (2007) and returned with excellent results.

Coached by Ms Jennifer Tham since 1998 and Albert Tay since 2005, the choir’s wide-ranging repertoire embraces the work of living composers, contemporary sacred and art music as well as spiritual and gospel.
